IT scoop for Belfast Team

May 27, 2004

A Belfast team of IT specialists is to develop new software for a global insurer over the next two years. The team from Liberty IT, which employs 140 people at its Adelaide Street offices, has been awarded the project by Liberty International Underwriters, which has headquarters in Boston, USA.

Both companies are wholly owned subsidiaries of the US-based Liberty Mutual Group.

The new software will be tailor-made to help Liberty International Underwriters (LIU) sell its insurance products in the aviation, engineering, environmental, casualty and special casualty sectors.

The first phase of the project is expected to roll out in the second quarter of this year at LIU's New York offices.

Subsequent releases will be used in Canada, Australia, Singapore, France, Germany, England and Ireland.

Ellen Fecteau, chief information officer for LIU said: "The new policy publishing system being developed by Liberty IT will streamline our whole underwriting process. Its functionality aspects will help us meet our growth and customer service targets while ensuring compliance and legal issues are kept in sync."
