Belfast firm lands major US deal
April 14, 2005
BELFAST-BASED software company Liberty IT has signed a deal to develop new applications for one of the USA's largest insurance firms.
Over the next three years a team of 10 IT specialists from Liberty will work with Boston-based Regional Agency Markets to introduce an enhanced automated underwriting system.
Both Liberty and RAM are wholly owned subsidiaries of the Liberty Mutual Group in the US.
The new partnership means that Liberty now provides software support to all strategic business units in the huge Liberty Mutual Group.
RAM is a national group of regional insurance companies that distribute personal and small to mid-size commercial insurance products through independent insurance agents.
In 2003 the RAM group accounted for a fifth - $3.4 bn -of Liberty Mutual's revenues.
Ray Hall, chief information officer of RAM, said: "RAMS's products and services must be supported by high quality, highly functional systems. The team at Liberty IT in Belfast is working closely with colleagues in Indianapolis to develop and introduce this new cost effective agent facing functionality."
Liberty IT was established in Belfast in 1997 and now has 160 staff at its Adelaide Street base.
