Liberty IT Digs Deep for Local Charities
February 01, 2008

Local charities which benefited from the monies raised throughout 2007 included Marie Curie Cancer Care Northern Ireland, The Ulster Cancer Foundation, The Northern Ireland Hospice; The Simon Community for the Homeless, Child NI and The Cedar Foundation.
Liberty IT's voluntary Charity Committee raised the funds by hosting a range of events such as dress down days, a quiz night extravaganza, participating in the Belfast Marathon and a Christmas appeal.
Making the donations on behalf of Liberty IT, Managing Director, William Hamilton, said: Liberty IT is proud to support these worthy local charities and the valuable work they do throughout Northern Ireland. At Liberty IT, we take our corporate responsibility to the local community very seriously and we therefore encourage our staff to have fun whilst being creative in their efforts to raise much needed funds for these very worthwhile causes."
Accepting the donation on behalf of Marie Curie Cancer Care, Community Fundraiser Grace Smyth said: "All the services provided by Marie Curie Cancer Care are given free of charge, but it costs more than £4.5 million per year to run the Marie Curie Hospice, Belfast and our nursing services. Marie Curie Cancer Care is pleased to accept this donation which has been raised by the Liberty IT staff that entered the Relay Race at the Belfast Marathon and proceeds raised through coffee mornings. I would like to thank the Liberty IT staff members for choosing Marie Curie Cancer Care and we wish them every success with their future fundraising achievements".
Also accepting a cheque on behalf of The Ulster Cancer Foundation, Neill Grainger, Senior Development Officer said: "There is little that causes as much anxiety and distress as a diagnosis of cancer. Every year in Northern Ireland almost 9,000 people will face this shocking reality and around 3,600 families will lose a loved one to the disease.
"The Ulster Cancer Foundation is a local charity that aims not only to save lives, but also to enhance the quality of life of everyone affected by cancer by driving forward improvements in treatment and care for those diagnosed with cancer. Our work is only possible because of the support and ongoing contributions from local people and we are indebted to the staff from Liberty IT for their fundraising efforts."
Liberty IT currently employs 240 staff and provides a wide range of software application development and related information technology services to its US based parent company, Liberty Mutual.
