Liberty IT Announces 2011 Recipients of Prestigious Scholarship in Computer Science

Liberty Information Technology Ltd recently announced the recipients of the Liberty IT 2011 Undergraduate Scholarship for Computer Science in Northern Ireland.

Established in conjunction with the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Queens University Belfast and the School of Computing and Mathematics at University of Ulster, the scholarship aims to increase enrolment and retention of students in computer science and to increase the availability of well educated and skilled employees in this technical area.


Lynsey Boyce, an MEng student in Computer Science at Queens University, Belfast and Christopher Mowbray, who is studying for a BSc in Software Engineering at University if Ulster Jordanstown, have been awarded the £1,000 annual scholarship which includes a eight week placement at the end of their first year of study, a guaranteed placement year during their undergraduate programme and a potential Associate Software Engineer position with Liberty IT upon successful completion of their degree.


Commenting on receiving the scholarship, Lynsey said:Getting the Liberty IT bursary means a lot to me as it allows me to explore the working world if IT and gain experience that will be vital for my future career in this profession. I chose the degree path of computer science as it allowed me to expand on my interest in computers and their capabilities. Studying computer science excites me as I know it is an area that is always developing and will always be able to offer new and exciting opportunities in the future. I would like to thank Liberty IT for giving me this opportunity to expand on my teaching at university and gain the experience to become a future IT professional.


Christopher Mowbray said: "I chose to study computer science at university as I am deeply interested in the world of computers. The reason that I am so interested in this field is that you never stop learning new skills as technology is advancing at a rapid rate and constantly changing. Out of all the modules I have studied at college and will study at university, programming is the one I enjoy the most. I am extremely grateful for the Liberty bursary that has been awarded to me as Liberty IT offers me so many great opportunities as being part of the team. This gives me the confidence and motivation to reach my career aspirations in the field of software engineering and I am looking forward to joining the company
