Apprenticeships at Liberty IT
Monday, February 17, 2020
Liberty IT is recruiting for apprentices via the Work+ scheme with Belfast Metropolitan College – these opportunities close on Friday 28 February and all the information about how to apply can be found here.
If you’re thinking about applying, you’ll probably want to know a bit about what it’s like to be an apprentice here – so we’ve had a chat with some past and present employees.
First, we spoke to Sean, who was our first ever apprentice! He told us,
‘I always had an interest in programming from a young age. After leaving university from a degree in pharmacy I decided to switch fields and pursue software engineering. Taking the less traditional route of an apprenticeship allowed me to kick start my career with hands on experience in the industry from near day one. For me the apprenticeship was the fastest way to get feedback and confirm my career path choice.
‘The apprenticeship enabled me to get a foot in the door of the industry and since then I’ve progressed to the position of Senior Software Engineer, a job I look forward to every morning.’
Another former apprentice who wanted to stay on after the programme had finished was able to move in to a role in the company, and said, ‘An apprenticeship is better than university – you’re learning by doing, without getting into debt, and the quality of teaching is on a par with degree courses.’
Our current apprentices are also having a positive experience here. Dean is featured in this short video from Work+.
Another apprentice who's working with us at the moment says, ‘It’s a good place to work – the team treats you the same as everyone else. The study/work balance is less stressful than full time education, as you have a day set aside for your studies.’
Work+ says, 'Learning on the job gives you an edge, a purpose and a part to play in a rapidly changing world. While others are pondering their next move, you are getting on with it – new skills, new experiences, new networks, new friends and a sense of independence that gets you where you want to be.'
If you think the apprenticeship route is for you, apply here before 28 February.
