Celebrating STEAM, Community And Creativity In Galway
Creativity, collaboration and community took centre stage at the A Night at the Museum event, where Liberty IT and Galway City Museum officially introduced STEAM Studio Galway, a unique partnership designed to inspire the next generation of young innovators by blending technology, culture and hands-on learning.
Guests included Liberty IT employees and representatives from organisations and businesses across the region, including Galway City Council, University of Galway, and the Innovation Technology AtlanTec Gateway (ITAG) - all gathering to experience how the new programme is sparking curiosity in classrooms across the county.
A Partnership Built On Creativity And Connection
STEAM Studio is at the heart of a growing collaboration between Liberty IT and Galway City Museum, one that brings together science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics in a way that feels both meaningful and uniquely local.
The free programme gives Junior Cycle students the opportunity to design and build their own games using Microsoft MakeCode Arcade, drawing creative inspiration from the museum’s collections and Galway’s rich maritime heritage, especially the iconic Galway Hooker.
By providing workshops and transportation at no cost to schools, STEAM Studio ensures students from across the region can take part, removing barriers and creating opportunities for all.
A Night to Explore, Collaborate and Be Inspired
A Night at the Museum, the after-hours event, gave guests a behind-the-scenes look at what makes STEAM Studio so special. Liberty IT’s STEAM Ambassadors guided visitors through hands-on demos, offering a small taste of the experience Galway’s students enjoy during the four-hour workshop.
Attendees also had the chance to explore the museum’s exhibitions after closing time, offering a rare opportunity to see how heritage and technology are woven together to capture imaginations and introduce young people to the world of coding and digital creativity.
Reflecting on the evening, Ben Steele, Director of Architecture at Liberty IT, said:
“We were delighted to welcome guests for this special evening celebrating our new partnership with Galway City Museum. A Night at the Museum gave us the opportunity to introduce STEAM Studio, an initiative that brings together technology, the arts and education to inspire young people and spark their interest in a career in tech. This new programme reflects Liberty IT’s commitment to investing in Galway’s future by supporting the development of the region’s next generation of tech talent.”
Strengthening Liberty IT’s Roots in Galway
With Liberty IT’s Galway team continuing to grow, and a new office now open at Bonham Quay, STEAM Studio represents another important milestone in the company’s long-term investment in the region.
Over the past two years, Liberty IT has built strong community partnerships across Galway, from education and technology organisations to local cultural institutions.
STEAM Studio is the latest chapter in that journey, one that brings people together, supports local schools and offers young people a creative and accessible pathway into the world of tech.
Whether through hands-on learning, creative exploration or community collaboration, A Night at the Museum showcased what Liberty IT stands for: innovation, partnership and a commitment to inspiring the next generation.
